The new ASCOS doctors come close in time now! Join us in congratulating Maria Martin to her new title, as she defended her thesis "Measurements of cloud condensation nuclei properties of remote and anthropogenic aerosols" on 23 May, 2008.
It all went like dance...
Join us in congratulating Rachel Chang for defending her thesis "Arctic Aerosol Sources and Continental Organic Aerosol Hygroscopicity" on 11 April, 2011! Rachel become the fourth new PhD to defend a thesis with results from ASCOS. Well done!
Join us in congratulating Joseph Sedlar on defending his thesis "Arctic clouds - interactions with radiation and thermodynamic structure" at Stockholm University last Friday, 3 December 2008. Well done!
The third all-hands ASCOS workshop was held in Leeds in the first week of October, graciously and efficiently hosted by Ian and Barbara Brooks. This time a new format was tried, when the ASCOS participants during one day met with UK modellers for the benefir of both communities.
Join us all in congratulating the 2nd new doctor to have achived a PhD within the ASCOS project, Cathryn Birch. Well done!
The second full ASCOS workshop was held at Ersta Conference in Stockholm 3-6 March. Some 30 ASCOS scientists got together to discuss achievments and upcoming publications in chilly Stockholm.
On 2-6 November, 2009, a group of meteorologists from Sweden, Germany, the UK and US got together at NOAA/ESRL in Boulder, Colorado, for the the First ASCOS Meteorology Workshop. Besides a nice dinner at the Dushanbe Teahouse we spend five 9-hour days picking apart some of the the meteorological data from the ASCOS campaign, focusing primarily on vertical mixing and processes that contributed to cloud formation and their effects.
Join us in congratulating Petri Vaattovaara for successfully defended his thesis "The organic tandem differential mobility analyzer: Instrument development and studies of freshly nucleated and Aitken mode size atmospheric nanoparticle compositions at marine and forest environments" (yes that is a long title!) on 30 October 2009 at University of Kuopio in Finland. A large emphasis in IPY was put on fostering future Arctic scientists and since ASCOS is an IPY project it is a particular pleasure to congratulate Petri to having become the first new ASCOS PhD!
On 10-14 August 2009, Petri Vaattovaara and Zoran Ristovski represented ASCOS at the "18th International Conference on Nucleation & Atmospheric Aerosol" in Prague, Czech Republic, among participants from 39 countries. Petri gave an oral presentation of observations of ultrafine particle composition over the open Arctic Ocean during the "Aerosol-Climate Interaction" session while Zoran presented a short overview of the VH-TDMA measurements collected during ASCOS in the plenary session on Marine Aerosols.

ASCOS made it to yet another conference! This time Andreas Held presented aerosol flux observations at the European Aerosol Conference in Karlsruhe, Germany on 6 - 11 September, 2009. Andreas was also given the opportunity to present these results as an oral presentation as a backup presentation.
